Success Story

Will Jones

Working with Will, a professional MMA fighter, I’ve tailored a 1:1 training plan to improve his strength, energy systems, and performance.

Why MMA Fighter Will Jones Chose One-to-One Strength & Conditioning

When Will Reached Out

Will Jones is a professional MMA fighter with a 3-1 record, training out of Team Renegade. When he came to me, his goal was clear: keep improving and push his performance to the next level.

Will had worked with other coaches before and had success, but he wanted something more personal—one-to-one strength and conditioning sessions tailored to his needs and his fight schedule.

As he puts it: “That one-to-one training can push you just that little bit further.”

Building the Right Programme

For Will, communication and adaptability were key. He wanted a coach who listened to his input, understood the demands of MMA, and created a plan that worked for him—not a cookie-cutter programme.

I make sure every session is designed with his fight goals in mind. Whether he’s in-camp or out-of-camp, the structure is there, but the focus changes. Out-of-camp, we build strength and power with longer rest periods. In-camp, sessions become more intense, with shorter rest and higher output to develop energy systems for competition.

Will values this approach because it’s backed by research and specific to his sport. “I can see that the stuff we do is verifiable in MMA,” he said. That’s important for any fighter—knowing that the work in the gym translates to better performance in the cage.

How We Measure Progress

At the end of each session, we use a simple rating scale from 1 to 10. This helps keep training at the right intensity and ensures we’re pushing just enough without overdoing it.

Most sessions fall around a 6 or 7 in terms of difficulty—but in fight camp, the sessions are shorter, more intense, and designed to mimic the demands of competition. It’s a balance between building strength and conditioning while staying sharp and explosive.

Will’s Advice for Other Fighters

If you’re serious about your performance, Will’s advice is straightforward:

“Jump into a few sessions. Tie yourself into just a few—it’s not mega expensive—and you’ll see for yourself what you get out of it.”

For Will, investing in one-to-one strength and conditioning is about more than just getting stronger. It’s about accountability, structure, and having someone who can push you beyond what you’d do alone. “If you want to progress to that next level, it’s the right decision in my opinion.”
